Regional Weather Summary
National Weather Service State College PA
722 PM EST Wed Dec 4 2024

A snow storm crossing the state overnight will create very gusty
winds statewide tonight and Thursday, and heavy snow over the
favored lake effect regions covering the northwestern third to
half of the state from Erie eastward to Coudersport. The cold
front associated with this storm will pass through tonight and
early Thursday morning and then moving out of the state by early
Thursday morning.

Expect numerous snow showers and some heavier squalls tonight and
early Thursday as the frontal boundary moves across the
Commonwealth. The wind will gust into the 20s and lower 30s today,
but really ramp up after the front goes by. Gusts later tonight
and Thursday will be in the 40s and could top 50 MPH in higher
terrain areas and in areas prone to funneling effects. The
temperatures in the southeastern piedmont may be mild enough to
have only rain as the showers pass through Thursday morning. But,
a thin coating of snow is not out of the question for higher
elevations of the lower Susquehanna and Delaware valleys. Lows
tonight will be in the upper teens west to lower and mid 30s near
Philadelphia.

The lake effect snow machine will continue to crank out snow through
the end of the week. The expected heavy accumulations have
prompted winter storm warnings for much of the northwestern
portion of the state. Expect very heavy accumulations in the snow
belt off of Lake Erie. Some 3-day totals between Erie, Meadville
and Warren could approach 2 feet by Friday mid-day.
