908 FXUS61 KCAR 052331 CCA AFDCAR Area Forecast Discussion...CORRECTED National Weather Service Caribou ME 731 PM EDT Tue Aug 5 2025 .SYNOPSIS... High pressure builds across the region through Wednesday night. This high then slowly slides to the south and east Thursday through Friday night. A weak trough of low pressure moves into Maine on Saturday. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/... Update... Mainly clear skies continue this evening along with light wind as high pressure continues to build across. The current forecast continues on track, thus no changes needed at this time. See updated aviation section. previous discussion Surface high pressure builds across the region tonight through Wednesday night. At the same time, upper level ridging also builds across the region. Skies will remain mostly clear tonight through Wednesday night. Patchy, mostly river valley, fog is possible both later tonight and Wednesday night. Low temperatures both tonight and Wednesday night will generally range from around 40 to around 50 north, though locally colder temperatures are possible in the normally coldest northwest valley locations. High temperatures Wednesday will generally range from the mid to upper 70s north, to the upper 70s to around 80 Downeast. && .SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... High pressure lingers in the area through the end of the week, continuing a period of dry and mild conditions. Skies mostly clear throughout the short term period. Could see a few clouds move in Thursday afternoon, mainly in central and Downeast Maine. Winds generally light and variable, before becoming south/southwest on Friday. High temperatures in the low-80s on Thursday. Very slight chance for some upper-level haze to move in over central Maine, but confidence is low. Light winds, high relative humidity, clear skies, and potential surface inversion could cause some valley fog to develop Thursday night. && .LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/... High pressure continues to linger in Maine until Friday evening, when it slides off into the Atlantic. The GFS and Euro come into agreement about a shortwave moving over northern Maine, but the GFS has a more developed system. There is a potential for some rainfall Saturday night into Sunday. Highest chances of rain continue to be in northern Maine. Potential for some instability which could cause some rumbles of thunder based on elevated CAPE and lapse rates, but too early for good confidence. Increasing trend for high temperatures, rising into the 80s this weekend. Looking at a potential for some temperatures reaching into the upper 80s into 90s Sunday into Monday. Overnight lows generally in the 50s, rising to be lows in the 60s by early next week. && .AVIATION /23Z TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
