Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Central South Carolina
and East Central Georgia
National Weather Service Columbia SC
137 AM EDT Wed Aug 20 2025

.DISCUSSION...
Drier and slightly cooler conditions continue to be expected
today with weak high pressure ridging down into the area
and upper subsidence occurring. Deep mixing could allow slightly
more gusty northeast winds to mix down this afternoon with gusts
toward 15-20 mph possible but outside of this, little concern
for fire weather exists. Thursday and into this weekend sees
increased rain chances with an initial weak front working through
Thursday and Friday before a stronger front moves in Sunday. Lingering
upper subsidence may yield lower shower/storm coverage Thursday compared
to Friday and this weekend. The first hint at drier and cooler conditions
comes during the early week behind Sunday`s front.

Fog potential tonight: Patchy ground fog is expected in fog prone
locations.
