The National Weather Service in Columbia has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Southeastern Fairfield County in central South Carolina...
  Southwestern Kershaw County in central South Carolina...
  Northeastern Lexington County in central South Carolina...
  Northwestern Richland County in central South Carolina...

* Until 1045 PM EDT.

* At 940 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain across the warned area. Between 3 and 5 inches of rain
  has fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are
  possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Columbia, West Columbia, Cayce, Irmo, Forest Acres, Camden,
  Dentsville, St. Andrews, Lake Wateree Dam, Oak Grove, Elgin,
  Arcadia Lakes, Lake Carolina, Killian, Villages at Sandhill,
  Sesquicentennial State Park, Woodfield, Columbia International
  University and Lugoff.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 126 between mile markers 0 and 3.
Interstate 26 between mile markers 101 and 110.
Interstate 20 in South Carolina between mile markers 62 and 80.
Interstate 77 between mile markers 16 and 31.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Most flooding deaths occur in vehicles. Never drive through a
flooded roadway or around barricades. Turn around, don`t drown.

Flooded roadways are nearly impossible to see at night. Avoid
traveling in this area. Turn around, don`t drown.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
