Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Central/Northern Vermont and
Northern New York
National Weather Service Burlington VT
135 PM EDT Sun Oct 12 2025
...Breezy Winds Continue, Rain Arriving Tonight...
.DISCUSSION...
Dry conditions will continue through this afternoon ahead of an
approaching coastal low for most locations north of US 4. RH
observations show 30-40% values across northern New York and
northern Vermont which will continue through this afternoon,
however, winds are not expected to be near critical values which
will limit any fire weather concerns. Some locations in the
Northeast Kingdom could see occasional easterly breezy conditions
up to 15 to 20 mph, but still remaining below critical levels.
In southern Vermont, gusts will be around 25 mph, especially in
Rutland County where downsloping will aid easterly winds. RHs
will be slightly higher with moisture advection, however, with
gusts near critical values, fire weather concerns will continue
until mid afternoon. By mid to late afternoon, wetting
precipitation will arrive in southern Vermont with 0.5-1"
expected. Much drier conditions are expected further north with
0.25" in central Vermont, and only a few hundreths near the
international border and St. Lawrence Valley. Breezy conditions
will continue in southern Vermont overnight, but wetting rainfall
will mitigate any fire weather concerns.
