The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for Code Orange or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category due to Fine Particulates for much of northern and central Vermont until 11 PM tonight. The air quality index, or AQI, is expected to approach or exceed the Code Orange or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category due to Fine Particulates. When pollution levels are in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category, the Vermont Department of Health recommends that these individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, older adults, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease and those working outside. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. People with asthma should follow their asthma action plans and keep quick relief medicine handy. If you have heart disease: symptoms such as palpitations, shortness of breath, or unusual fatigue may indicate a serious problem. If you have any of these, contact your healthcare provider. An Air Quality Action Day means that particulate concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at Albany NY has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for Fine Particulates for all of northern New York until midnight EDT tonight. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an air quality index value of Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category for Fine Particulates. The air quality index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young and those with pre existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. For additional information, please visit the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website at, https://on.ny.gov/nyaqi, or call the Air Quality Hotline at 1-800-535-1345. $$
