THIS EVENING FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR SOUTH PARK,
THE SOUTHERN FRONT RANGE FOOTHILLS, AND PALMER DIVIDE INTO EAST
CENTRAL COLORADO, FIRE WEATHER ZONES 214, 216, 241, 246, and
247...
.DISCUSSION...Today and tonight...West-southwest winds gust to 45
mph today ahead of an approaching cold front. Main area for these
gusty winds will be along and south of I-70. In addition to the
gusty winds, warm and dry conditions will prevail leading to Red
Flag Conditions. A weak cold front enters northeast Colorado this
morning bringing north to northeast winds. This front is expected
to stall near I-70, though the stronger west winds could push the
front back north for a few hours. The main cold front pushes south
through the area during the late afternoon and early evening.
Winds shift to the north to northeast behind the front with gusts
to 45 mph. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are
expected behind the front. It will become cold enough for snow
across the plains after midnight.
LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Friday through Monday...The next storm will
bring mostly light snow to the forecast area Friday well into
Saturday along with much colder temperatures. Snowfall
accumulations of 7 to 13 inches are possible in the high country
by Saturday. Sunday will be drier with near normal temperatures.
There will be scattered late day showers on Monday with an
isolated thunderstorm possible. Smoke dispersal won`t be very
good Friday and Saturday, but good to excellent dispersal can be
expected for both Sunday and Monday afternoons. Critical fire
weather conditions are not expected.
