To:Subscribers: -Family of Services -NOAA Weather Wire Services -Emergency Managers Weather Information Network Other NWS partners, users, and employees From:Michael Cantin Meteorologist In Charge Weather Forecast Office Boise, Idaho Subject: Changes in Flood Categories for the Owyhee River at Owyhee Dam (OWYO3) The changes will become effective on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. The National Weather Service intends to change the moderate and major flood categories for the Owyhee River at Owyhee Dam. Because of this change, starting on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, flood warnings, flood statements and flood advisories will reference the new category levels as outlined below. This change is part of a recent re-evaluation of the flood plain and flood impacts with local emergency management and the irrigation district. The new flood categories will be as follows: 1. New moderate flood category will be 8,000 CFS. The previous moderate flood category was 6,000 CFS. 2. New major flood category will be 13,500 CFS. The previous major flood category was 15,500 CFS.
