Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
851 PM MDT Sun Sep 29 2024

.DISCUSSION...Breezy conditions will continue tonight from east
of Baker City to Ontario and along the lower Snake River Valley
in SW Idaho. Typically windier spots near Ontario will see
gusts to 40 mph through about midnight. Otherwise clear skies as
a much drier air mass settles into place. Have seen dew point
drops of around 20F degrees in last few hours across SE Oregon
and portions of SW Idaho. The advance of this drier air is
showing up clearly on water vapor satellite this evening as it
advances east. Forecast for tonight is on track so no update.

.PREV DISCUSSION...
SHORT TERM...Tonight through Tuesday night...Dry cold front
passed through this morning, but a second front will increase
northwest winds to 15-30 mph late this afternoon, decreasing
only slowly through the night. The air behind the front is very
dry and with clear skies low temps tonight (30s to lower 40s)
will be significantly colder than last night, but winds will
prevent even colder lows. Lighter winds Monday night will allow
the colder lows: 20s in the mountains and 30s to lower 40s in
the valleys. Patchy frost has been forecast in the Snake Basin
early Tuesday morning where temps are below 36 degrees, but the
air may be too dry for frost. High temps Monday will be in the
60s to lower 70s as the upper trough moves through. Tuesday will
be warmer as the next Pacific upper ridge comes inland. Skies
will stay clear.

LONG TERM...Wednesday through Sunday...A dissipating Pacific
cold front will bring some clouds Wednesday. Dry zonal flow
Thursday will bring sunny skies with little change in temperature.
On Friday an upper ridge will build northward from the Great
Basin/Four Corners area bringing warmer air with valley high
temps reaching the 80s. Lows will warm more slowly, staying
generally in the upper 30s through 40s. Clear skies throughout.
