Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
317 AM MDT Sun Jul 6 2025

.SHORT TERM...Today through Tuesday night...Dry and warmer
today, with mostly clear skies and highs near normal as a ridge
builds in from the SE. Moisture will increase slightly Monday,
providing an increase in clouds but probably not enough for
showers, and there is no mention of precipitation Monday or
Monday night. If a shower were to develop, the most likely place
would be along the NV border in Owyhee or southern Twin Falls
counties. Tuesday, as an upper level low to our SW edges closer,
moisture should increase enough to bring a chance of showers and
thunderstorms to our NW perimeter, mainly western Harney County
northeast into western and northern Baker County, then east
across the northern part of Adams and Valley counties. At this
time, the NBM did not have PoPs high enough to warrant a
mention, so we edited to make sure messaging for a chance of
thunderstorms got out for Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Temperatures will warm considerably Monday, and then even more
Tuesday. A heat advisory may be needed for Tuesday, but will
hold off on issuing a heat watch this far out. Winds are
forecast to be light (10 mph or less) for most folks today and
Monday, with a slight increase Tuesday.

.LONG TERM...Wednesday through Sunday...Wednesday will see the trough
breaking off from the California coast fully steering into the
northern great basin region. Long-range ensembles continue to favor
some positive moisture anomaly through Wednesday, so isolated
showers/thunderstorms cannot be ruled out especially for higher
elevations. Valley daytime temperatures are expected to remain on
the higher end in the upper 90s on Wednesday, before the trough
brings a slight cooldown into the upper 80s on Thursday. A strong
ridge is expected to slowly build back into the area off the four
corners region from Thursday to Sunday, returning a warming and
drying trend with valley temperatures climbing back up to the upper
90s Friday to Sunday.
