Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
334 AM MDT Wed Aug 20 2025

.SHORT TERM...Today through Friday night...Southwesterly flow
aloft around a Four-Corners high will continue today. There is
some moisture available in the flow south and east of Twin
Falls for a slight chance (less than 20 percent) of afternoon
and evening showers/thunderstorms, otherwise dry conditions
prevail. The high drifts westward through Friday, changing the
flows direction to more westerly on Thursday followed by ridging
on Friday. The means dry conditions area-wide, along with a
warming trend. Smoke from wildfires will continue, mainly in the
West Central Mountains and near the ID/NV border.

.LONG TERM...Saturday through Wednesday...The high pressure
ridge remains strong on Saturday, which will likely be the
hottest day through the period. Highs could reach the century
mark in the lower valleys. Monsoonal moisture wrapping around
the area of high pressure to our south could reach our area by
Sunday or Monday. This brings with it a chance (20-40 percent)
of showers/thunderstorms - mainly the highlands along the
Nevada border and in central Idaho. Temperatures trend slightly
lower due to the increased clouds and chances of precipitation.

.AVIATION...VFR under mostly clear skies. Local visibility
reductions in the W-Central ID Mountains and the ID/NV border due
to wildfire smoke. Surface winds: W-NW 5-15 kt. Winds aloft at
10kft MSL: SW 10-20 kt.

KBOI...VFR. Surface winds: variable less than 5 kt becoming NW
8-12 kt with gusts to 20 kt after 15Z.
