Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
910 PM MST Thu Nov 27 2025

.DISCUSSION...The cold front is tracking across central Oregon
this evening bringing breezy winds to higher elevations with .
Fog will begin to form in sheltered valleys north of Mountain
Home and Rome, OR overnight, with localized dense fog forming in
the Lower Treasure and Upper Weiser Basin. Visibilities less
than a quarter mile will occur in some areas, making travel
difficult along the Interstate 84, Highway 95 and Highway 26
corridors. Valley rain and mountain snow will push in early
tomorrow morning over Baker County, Upper Weiser Basin, and the
West Central Mountains, with snow levels dipping to 4000-5000
feet MSL. Minimal accumulations are anticipated with
precipitation, with mountain peaks seeing accumulations only up
to 2-4 inches. Updated forecast to expand fog and precipitation
coverage, otherwise no updates needed.

.AVIATION...Mainly VFR tonight. Areas of IFR to VLIFR fog developing
after 28/05Z, favoring the Treasure Valley, eroding mid to late Fri
morning. Cold front with scattered rain/snow moving NW to SE after
28/11Z, creating IFR/LIFR in snow and VFR/MVFR in rain. Snow levels:
4k-5k feet MSL. Mtns becoming obscured. Surface winds: variable less
than 8 kt. Becoming W to NW 10-25 kt with gusts 20-35 kt Fri
afternoon, with strongest at KMUO to KJER/KTWF. Winds aloft at 10kft
MSL: W to NW 15-30 kt.

KBOI...A 25% chance of LIFR/VLIFR in fog tonight, increasing to 65%
chance by 28/12Z as high clouds clear. Therefore, included fog in
TAF for morning hours, but exact time of arrival is still uncertain.

between 28/17Z-21Z. Surface winds light and variable, then NW 7-15
kt with gusts up to 20-25 kt with front Friday afternoon.

Weekend outlook...Patchy fog Sat morning. A 20-35% chance of
rain/snow showers Sat night into Sunday, with snow levels around
2000-3500 feet MSL. MVFR to LIFR in snow. Mountains will be obscured

.PREV DISCUSSION...
SHORT TERM...Tonight through Saturday night...Fog has mostly
lifted to low clouds, clearing fully behind a band of high
clouds as it moves west to east across the area. The clouds have
hung on long enough to reduce forecast max temps for portions of
SW Idaho, especially those that had fog this morning. An upper
level trough moves through all day Friday, bringing a cold front
Friday morning. Ahead of the cold front winds will gust to 15-25
mph, especially along ridges this evening. Additionally, fog may
have enough time to reform in sheltered valleys tomorrow morning
as surfaces remain fairly saturated, though pre-frontal winds
and partly cloudy skies in the forecast lower confidence.

As the front passes tomorrow morning precipitation chances rise
to 40-60% in high elevation and 10-20% in lower elevations.
Precip remains generally north of Mountain Home, but snow levels
drop from 5-6 kft MSL to 3-4 kft MSL Friday night. Forecast
rainfall/liquid equivalent didn`t change much from this
morning`s forecast, still up to 0.1 inches in mountain valleys
and up to 0.2 inches on summits. Snowfall less than 1 inch
expected below 5.5 kft, and up to 2-3 inches above that. Friday
afternoon and evening gusts pick up in the upper Snake Plain
including the Magic Valley, up to 35 mph in open areas and
ridges. Friday will be about 5 degrees colder than Thursday and
Saturday 5 degrees colder than Friday, ending up about normal
for this time of year. Confidence has increased concerning a
system moving in Saturday night, with low QPF amounts up to 0.05
inches. However, the timing of this system overnight with
colder air in place means this could be the first sight of
flurries for many low areas, including the Treasure Valley and
Magic Valley. Most of the area has a 20-30% chance of
precipitation.

LONG TERM...Sunday through Thursday...Drier conditions with
gusty northwesterly winds will move into the area behind the exiting
shortwave trough on Sunday afternoon. Dry weather will continue on
Monday with winds slackening. A new upper level shortwave trough
will move through the area on Tuesday spreading another round of
precipitation across southwestern Idaho and southeastern Oregon.
Snow levels on Tuesday are expected to be around 3000 feet which is
a little lower than previously forecast and now support a mix of
rain and snow in valley locations and light snow accumulations above
about 3500 feet. The upper flow turns more northerly with available
moisture and chances of precipitation decreasing on Wednesday and
Thursday. Temperatures during the extend forecast period will be
near normal for early December.
