461 NOUS41 KBGM 052245 PNSBGM PAZ039-061045- Public Information Statement National Weather Service Binghamton NY 645 PM EDT Sat Jul 5 2025 ...NWS Damage Survey for 07/03/25 Thunderstorm Wind Event Microburst... Peak Wind Estimated: 95-100 mph Path Length : 3.1 miles Path Width maximum: 2.5 miles Fatalities: None Injuries: None Start Date: 07_03_2025 Start Time: 3:30 pm EDT Start Location: Oakland, PA Start Lat/Lon: 41.96/-75.63 End Date: 07_03_2025 End Time: 3:35 pm EDT End Location: Susquehanna Depot End Lat/Lon: 41.92/-75.59 Overview...Widespread tree damage that was consistent with 65 to 85 mph winds occurred throughout the Oakland and Susquehanna Depot, PA area due to a long tracking supercell that caused a large downburst. There were enhanced areas of tree damage where local terrain effects caused funneling of winds and eddies to form. The winds were noticeably higher in these areas, peaking at 90 to 100 mph. Some locations where these more intense funneling winds occurred were along Oak Hill Road and Skinner Hill Road in Oakland and in several drainages aligning from northwest to southeast with the storm motion. Also, near Boyden Street in Oakland there were several soft and hardwood trees snapped 20 feet above the trunk. Finally, along Turnpike Street in Susquehanna Depot, the cemetery had several large pine trees snapped 15 feet above the trunk and a large maple that was snapped. The damage in these areas showed signs of rotation likely was caused from winds interacting with the terrain and localized wind speeds up to 100 mph. The National Weather Service would like to thank impacted residents for sharing their accounts of this event. We also want to thank Alec from Susquehanna Depot Fire Department for his time and assistance in completing this survey. && NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$
