URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Gaylord MI
1009 AM EST Fri Feb 28 2025

...IMPACTS FROM A ROBUST CLIPPER SYSTEM CONTINUE THROUGH THIS
AFTERNOON, WITH DETERIORATING TRAVEL CONDITIONS EXPECTED THIS
EVENING...

.Following this morning`s wave of snow, activity will be on a
downward trend later this morning into the afternoon, with any
lingering snowfall favoring the eastern U.P. after midday. As the
backside of the system works into the region this evening, another
wave of snow will lead to conditions deteriorating once again, and
as temperatures plummet below freezing, (eventually reaching into
the single digits by later tonight), any remaining wet road surfaces
will quickly become icy this evening. In addition, strong wind gusts
this evening may lead to power outage potential, especially in areas
where snow load on trees is high.

1009 AM EST Fri Feb 28 2025

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM EST SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations between 3 and 5
inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 to 50 mph this evening may
lead to significant blowing and drifting snow, along with whiteout
  conditions.

* WHERE...Central Chippewa, Eastern Mackinac, Southeast Chippewa,
  and Western Chippewa Counties.

* WHEN...Until 4 AM EST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Visibilities may drop below 1/4
mile due to falling and blowing snow, especially this evening.
Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous
and potentially life-threatening. The hazardous conditions will
impact the Friday evening commute. The strong winds and weight of
snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic
  power outages.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely
necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden
changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the
motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your
destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially
cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is
winterized and in good working order.

Do not touch downed lines and report any power outages to your
electric company. Travel is highly discouraged due to slick roadways
and the possibility of downed trees and power lines, especially this
evening.

With temperatures falling to near zero tonight and only reaching the
low-to-mid teens Saturday, impacts from prolonged power outages may
be amplified.
