Public Information Statement
National Weather Service Albany NY
812 AM EDT Sat Oct 11 2025

...THE GROWING SEASON HAS ENDED FOR THE MOHAWK VALLEY, EASTERN
CATSKILLS, AND NORTHERN AND CENTRAL TACONICS IN NEW YORK,
SOUTHERN VERMONT AND THE BERKSHIRES IN WESTERN NEW ENGLAND...

The end of the seasonal frost/freeze program is determined by the
75th percentile for a Fall Freeze, which is roughly 10 days beyond
the climatological median first Fall Freeze date, based on 30-year
temperature averages. For the Mohawk Valley, eastern Catskills,
northern and central Taconics, Berkshires, and southern Vermont,
that date is October 11.

During the defined growing season, NWS Albany issues frost and
freeze headlines as needed. Once the end date of the
climatologically defined growing season is reached, frost and freeze
headlines will no longer be issued for that climatological area.

The growing season has ended in the following zones:
In New York...

Southern Herkimer
Fulton
Montgomery
Schoharie
Western Albany
Western Schenectady
Western Greene
Western Ulster
Eastern Columbia
Eastern Rensselaer

In Vermont...
Bennington
Windham

In Massachusetts...
Berkshire

The National Weather Service in Albany will no longer issue FREEZE
WARNINGS or FROST ADVISORIES for these zones this year.

People are strongly urged to follow local forecasts and take
preventative actions from a frost or freeze when low temperatures
are forecast to be in the mid-30s or colder.

Frost and freeze products will resume for these zones in Spring
2026.
