Total snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 to 40 mph. * WHERE...Kuskokwim Delta Coast from Kipnuk north including Nunivak Island. * WHEN...Until 7 PM AKDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Visibilities reduced to one quarter mile or less due to blowing snow. Travel could be very difficult. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A significant winter storm is moving across the Kuskokwim Delta coast and Nunivak Island. Gusty winds in combination with falling snow will lead to blizzard conditions, especially across Nunivak Island. The worst conditions will likely occur this morning. Visibility reductions to one-half mile are expected with brief periods to one-quarter mile for Toksook Bay to Kipnuk as winds accelerate through Etolin Strait. Snow showers and gusty winds are expected to persist through the weekend, though intensity should decrease Friday night. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel very hazardous. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle. Total snow accumulations between 8 and 18 inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph. Visibilities will be reduced to one half mile or less with wind and heavy snow. * WHERE...Eastern Aleutians. * WHEN...Until 4 PM AKDT this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Visibilities reduced to one half mile or less due to blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are possible at times. Travel could be very difficult. Area roadways may become dangerous for both personal and commercial vehicles to travel on. Travel on area roadways is not recommended unless necessary. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A significant winter storm will continue across the Eastern Aleutians through today. Heavy, wet snow is expected to persist through at least early this afternoon. Warmer air may move in this evening, allowing for a mix of rain and snow. Storm total snow amounts may be reduced if rain does mix in late today. The heaviest snowfall rates are expected through this morning with the strongest winds through today. Unalaska/Dutch Harbor emergency managers are reporting treacherous road conditions for commercial vehicles. Motorists are urged to use caution and only travel if necessary.
