096 WWAK82 PAFC 171331 SPSALU SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT National Weather Service ANCHORAGE AK 531 AM AKDT Tue Sep 17 2024 AKZ181-185-180900- Alaska Peninsula-Eastern Aleutians- Including the cities of Cold Bay, Sand Point, Unalaska, and Nikolski 531 AM AKDT Tue Sep 17 2024 ...STRONG WINDS AND ROUGH SEAS FOR THE EASTERN ALEUTIANS AND ALASKA PENINSULA THROUGH LATE THIS EVENING... A strong storm system is moving across the Pribilof Islands this morning and is expected to continue through the eastern Bering Sea toward Bristol Bay through tonight. The strongest winds and highest wave heights remain on track for this morning. Southwesterly to westerly wind gusts of 55 to 65 mph and wave heights of 15 to 25 ft are expected for the eastern Aleutians, Alaska Peninsula, and Bering side coastal waters for much of the day. Wind gusts could approach 70 mph around Cold Bay and Unimak Island to around Port Heiden this afternoon and evening. Wave heights building to 15 ft are expected near the outer portions of Unalaska Bay late morning through late tonight. $$ AKZ155-180900- Kuskokwim Delta- Including the cities of Bethel and Nunivak Island 531 AM AKDT Tue Sep 17 2024 ...ELEVATED WATER LEVELS POSSIBLE ALONG THE NORTHERN KUSKOKWIM DELTA COAST THROUGH LATE THIS AFTERNOON... A strengthening storm system moves across the Pribilof Islands into the eastern Bering Sea through tonight. Winds ahead of the leading front will shift from southeasterly with gusts 40 to 50 mph along the coast early this morning to southwest behind the front later this morning through this afternoon. As winds shift out of the north tonight, winds will gradually diminish through Wednesday. The timing of the strongest winds will likely coincide with high tide with the highest water levels expected between 10am and 2pm today. Water levels may rise as high as 1 to 2 ft above the normal highest tide line. The best chance for higher water levels will be near the communities of Kongiganak and Kwigillingok. $$
