.DISCUSSION...A cold front sweeps west to east today, bringing showers and
much cooler temperatures. Wetting rains are likely for all areas through
tonight except for the Yukon Flats, south slopes of the Eastern Brooks Range,
and Upper Tanana Valley. Ahead of the front today, there will be isolated
thunderstorms along a north/south line from Salcha east to the Alcan Border,
and also across the south slopes of the Alaska Range and up to the crest. RHs
will likely drop to near 30% again east of Dot Lake this afternoon. Monday
will be cool for all areas again with showers quickly decreasing. Winds in the
Upper Tanana Valley will increase from the northwest with gusts to 25 mph. RHs
will be moderated across all areas Monday. On Tuesday, a ridge of high pressure
builds over the area, with most valley locations likely returning to 70 degrees.
This is a dry, stable, North Pacific ridge, so thunderstorms are not expected, but
widespread RHs down to near 30% are possible for valley locations on Tuesday.
Wednesday will bring increasing cloud cover with rain expected by Thursday for
most areas, and by Friday further east. This system looks more favorable for
wetting rain across the Upper Tanana Valley where dry conditions persist.
