National Weather Service Aberdeen SD

.DISCUSSION...

Strong winds out of the south gusting 30 to 40 mph will only relax
slightly overnight, while remaining strong over the higher terrain
of eastern South Dakota.

An area of low pressure over western North Dakota Sunday morning will
wrap up over south central Canada Sunday afternoon and evening. This
will bring showers and a few thunderstorms to the area this evening,
before slowly ending over eastern South Dakota and west central
Minnesota during the day Sunday. Highest totals are expected to be
between a quarter and half an inch, mainly east of the James River.

A north to south oriented cold front near the Missouri River at 9 AM
Sunday will move push to near Aberdeen and Redfield around noon, and
into Minnesota between 4 and 5 pm. Behind the front, winds will
quickly switch from out of the south to out of the west and remain
strong. West winds will gust 40 to 50 mph for locations west of
Mobridge Sunday afternoon. Relative humidity values will fall to 40
to 50 percent Sunday.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

Unfavorable weather conditions and low moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there
is high potential for a fire to spread. Outdoor burning should be
restricted to early morning or evening hours when wind speeds are
usually lower and the relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Sunday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the high category.
