Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
220 PM CDT Thu Oct 9 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Strong southerly winds move over northeastern South Dakota continue
to move out of the area, and are expected to continue their decrease
through the evening tonight. Still, wind gusts my continue to reach
up to 30 miles per hour through this afternoon. Minimum afternoon
humidity between 40 and 60 percent help keep fire danger to a
minimum, but localized concerns are still possible. Behind the dry
cold front pushing the strong winds out, flow will veer to the north
and weaken as a surface high pressure center builds in. With the
weaker winds continuing and the afternoon humidity staying north of
30 percent, fire weather is not expected to be a concern Friday.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Friday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low to moderate category.
