599 FNUS55 KABQ 081956 FWFABQ Fire Weather Planning Forecast for North and Central New Mexico National Weather Service Albuquerque NM 156 PM MDT Tue Jul 8 2025 .DISCUSSION... The northwestern and west central areas of New Mexico will stay hot and mostly dry this week with afternoon humidity often dropping below 10 to 15 percent there. With the drier air in place there, storms will struggle to develop with little rainfall and mostly just dry lightning over a few west central areas. Wednesday is still forecast to observe the fewest number of storms throughout all of northern and central New Mexico with activity tending to stay on the southwest mountains and near the central mountain chain. Temperatures will also rise a degree or two on Wednesday. Storms will increase and turn more active Thursday through early next week, but they will tend to stay over the southwestern mountains and the eastern half of New Mexico where strong to severe cells will be found. Outside of thunderstorms, prevailing winds will tend to be light to moderate, but strong and gusty east canyons winds are expected to develop in vulnerable central areas of New Mexico Friday night and again Saturday night. ................................................................
