High-based showers and thunderstorms over the region today will be capable of producing brief rain, strong downburst wind gusts, and dry lightning strikes. A few of the cells south and east of Corona and Vaughn may produce small footprints of wetting rainfall. Areas even farther south and east toward Chaves County may actually see rainfall amounts greater than a quarter-inch. Forecast changes for Friday through Sunday include decreasing coverage of critical fire weather. The stronger winds are likely to be the limiting factor while minimum humidity remains subcritical in many areas. Several hours of patchy critical conditions are still possible however the overall threat for a more significant fire growing pattern have decreased. Dry and breezy conditions may continue into early next week as well. ................................................................
