...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...

* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents.

* WHERE...Walton, Bay, and Gulf County Beaches.

* WHEN...Through late tonight.

* IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away
  from shore into deeper water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Early this morning, the buoy located about
  90 miles south-southeast of Apalachicola was reporting a
  southwesterly swell of 1 to 2 feet at 6 to 7 seconds. This
  lingering southwesterly swell will be enough to support a
  continuation of high rip current risk along the south- and
  southwest-facing beaches of Walton, Bay, and Gulf Counties
  through tonight. The risk will be highest during the onshore
  seabreeze and outgoing tide in the afternoon. Rip risk will
  decidedly settle down starting Saturday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
