Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Angelo TX
619 PM CDT Wed Aug 14 2024

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Thursday)
Issued at 226 PM CDT Wed Aug 14 2024

...Heat Advisory for the Big Country extended through Thursday...

Today, there is a slight weakness in the upper level ridge from
the TX Panhandle into the Big Bend region, with a surface trough
also moving east into west Texas. This will result in isolated to
scattered thunderstorms developing to our west, but it`s unlikely
that any of this activity makes it into our western counties.

For the rest of the short term, another warm night can be
expected, with lows in the mid 70s to around 80. For Thursday, the
upper level ridge will begin strengthening over our area, so
temperatures are expected to be very similar if not a degree or
two warmer. With that in mind, the Heat Advisory will be continued
through Thursday evening for the Big Country. Although a few
isolated locations might briefly reach Heat Advisory criteria in
the Concho Valley, will hold off on a Heat Advisory for now.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through next Wednesday)
Issued at 208 PM CDT Wed Aug 14 2024

High pressure will remain across the region through the next 7
days. The center will shift back towards the southwestern U.S.
However, this means little for the forecast as we will still be
hot and dry for the foreseeable future. Expect an increased risk
for heat related illnesses to continue being the main headline
for the long term portion of the forecast.
