747 FNUS56 KPDT 052146 FWFPDT Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NE Oregon and SE Washington National Weather Service Pendleton OR 246 PM PDT Fri Jul 5 2024 ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM PDT THIS EVENING FOR WA ZONE 690 FOR WINDS AND LOW RH... ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM TO 9 PM PDT SATURDAY FOR OR ZONES 610, 611, 640, AND 642 FOR WINDS AND LOW RH... .DISCUSSION...Red flag warning remains in effect until 9 PM this evening for WA Fire Weather Zone 690 (Kittitas Valley); Red flag warnings in effect for OR Fire Weather Zones 610, 611, 640, and 642 valid Saturday 2 to 9 PM. Both of these are in effect for critically low relative humidity values into the teens and single digits, and breezy winds around 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 25 mph. Enhanced winds are expected thanks to a pair of passing shortwave troughs to the northeast rounding the dominant ridge over our region, tightening the pressure gradient and bringing elevated winds. Sunday winds should decline, but some elevated winds may be possible in Central Oregon once again. Expect this will be brief and should not coincide long enough with lowered RH values to necessitate any fire weather products, but we continue to monitor for the potential. Otherwise, expect significantly hot temperatures, with lower elevations into the triple digits over the weekend with overnight lows generally only down into the 60`s. ***Winds are 20 foot 10 minute averages*** ***CWR-chance of wetting rain 0.10 or greater*** High elevation Haines Index observed Friday July 5 Salem...5 Medford...5 Spokane...2 Boise...3 ORZ639-061130- East Slopes of the Northern Oregon Cascades- 246 PM PDT Fri Jul 5 2024 .TONIGHT... * Sky/weather.........Mostly clear. * Min temperature.....60-65. * Max humidity........34-47 percent. * Humidity recovery...Poor. * 20-foot winds....... * Valleys/lwr slopes...West winds 1 to 5 mph...except west 2 to 7 mph in the eastern Columbia River Gorge. * Ridges/upr slopes....West winds 1 to 5 mph. * CWR.................0 percent. * LAL.................1. * Haines Index........5 or moderate potential for extreme fire behavior. * Mixing height.......Near surface. * Transport winds.....West around 10 mph. .SATURDAY... * Sky/weather.........Mostly sunny. * Max temperature.....95-100...except 84-93 ridges. * Min humidity........11-16 percent. * 20-foot winds....... * Valleys/lwr slopes...Upslope less than 5 mph becoming northwest 2 to 7 mph in the afternoon. * Ridges/upr slopes....light less than 5 mph. * CWR.................0 percent. * LAL.................1. * Haines Index........4 or low potential for extreme fire behavior. * Mixing height.......8000 ft agl. * Transport winds.....West 5 to 10 mph. .SATURDAY NIGHT... * Sky/weather.........Mostly clear. * Min temperature.....61-66. * Max humidity........31-44 percent. * Humidity recovery...Poor. * 20-foot winds....... * Valleys/lwr slopes...West winds 3 to 8 mph. * Ridges/upr slopes....West winds 2 to 6 mph in the evening becoming light winds less than 5 mph. * CWR.................0 percent. * LAL.................1. * Haines Index........4 or low potential for extreme fire behavior. * Mixing height.......Near surface. * Transport winds.....West 10 to 15 mph. .SUNDAY... * Sky/weather.........Sunny. * Max temperature.....97-102...except 86-95 ridges. * Min humidity........10-15 percent. * 20-foot winds....... * Valleys/lwr slopes...Upslope less than 5 mph.
