...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1920, a huge hailstorm hammered parts of Antelope and
Boone counties in Nebraska. The storm broke nearly every
north-facing window, caused extensive roof damage, and
stripped trees of bark and foliage. The size of the hail
wasn`t reported.

In 2009, severe thunderstorms pummeled parts of Vermont
with destructive hail that reached just over 3 inches in
diameter. The largest hailstone, measuring 3.25 inches
in diameter and 6.75 inches in circumference and which
landed in the Northwest Vermont town of Westford, set a
Vermont state record, edging the record of an even 3
inches that had landed in Burlington on August 9th, 1968.
