...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1987, severe thunderstorms smacked Southwest and
South Central Kansas with 70 to 85 mph winds.  The
strongest gusts, 80 to 85 mph, roared through Newton and
Clearwater.  While the extent and magnitude of the damage
was major, details weren`t provided.

In 1969, what is known as the Ohio Fireworks Derecho
`shot the breeze` with the south shores of Lake Erie with
winds that reached an incredible 100 to 105 mph.
Eighteen people were killed and around 100 boats were
destroyed.  Thousands of trees were uprooted, including
about 5,000 in Toledo alone.
