...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Saturday Night)
Issued at 305 PM CDT Fri Jul 12 2024

Today has been another day of scattered showers and
thunderstorms. Radar data indicate that winds may have gusted as
high as 50 MPH in the strongest thunderstorms. Fortunately, the
current thunderstorm activity appears to be diminishing. The lone
exception is over our coastal counties where higher instability
levels persist. What thunderstorm activity remains will dwindle
with the loss of day time heating, yielding to another calm and
humid night. Patchy fog cannot be ruled out by day break.

If you liked today then you`ll like tomorrow. Enhanced lift via
little vort maxes in the mid/upper flow aloft coupled with diurnal
processes should yield to another day of scattered shower and
thunderstorm activity. Much like today, thunderstorms will be
capable of lightning, brief heavy downpours, and isolated strong
wind gusts. The silver lining with this pattern is that it`s
keeping temperatures below normal with highs struggling to reach
90F. In fact, some areas have managed to drop into the rain cooled
70s today. Couldn`t rule out that happening again tomorrow.
Therefore, we have opted to not issue another Heat Advisory. That
being said, the many who remain without power should still
practice heat safety due to a heightened heat vulnerability.

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday through next Thursday)
Issued at 305 PM CDT Fri Jul 12 2024

Hot and humid conditions are to continue through at least mid
week with high temperatures in the mid to upper 90s over areas
north of I-10 and in the low to mid 90s for areas south of I-10
and coastal locations. Heat indices between 101 to 107 deg F are
possible over portions of Southeast Texas through early next week
and may increase up to 110 deg F in some spots later in the week.
Heat Advisories may be required at times.

Please continue to practice heat safety: Drink plenty of fluids,
stay in an air-conditioned room, and stay out of the sun. Take
extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting
clothing and try to limit strenuous activities. Never leave
children or pets inside vehicles unattended. Also, be aware that
the surface may be too hot for your pets` paws when outdoors.

Rain chances are slightly lower on Sunday, but will need to keep
an eye on possible vort maxes (maybe associated to a weak mid
level disturbance) moving into the region from central TX as it
can tap into sufficient moisture and instability and result in
slightly higher rain chances than what is currently forecasted.
Drier conditions expected on Monday and Tuesday with only slight
chances for storms in the afternoons to early evenings. By mid
week, we should begin to see better conditions for isolated to
scattered showers and storms.

With the stronger storms heavy rainfall and strong gusty winds can
be expected. Ponding of water on roadways and minor flooding in
urban and poor drainage areas can occur, especially in areas that
have debris still affecting the drainage system.
