504 FNUS54 KEWX 161847 FWFEWX Fire Weather Planning Forecast for South Central Texas National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX 147 PM CDT Fri Aug 16 2024 .DISCUSSION... A hot and dry weather pattern will persist across South Central Texas through at least the middle of next week. Minimum relative humidities remain above 30 percent over areas along and east of I-35, and fall into the 20s west of I-35. Some locally elevated fire weather conditions will be possible along the Rio Grande where the southeast afternoon wind of 15 to 20 mph combines with RH values that could fall to near 20 percent by the late afternoon hours. By late next week the upper ridge will shift its orientation more to the SW into Mexico which might decrease temperatures just a bit as some moisture tries to move west onto the Texas coast. Overall however the hot/dry pattern will likely persist through the remainder of August. As a result, grasses will continue to dry and may become dormant or cured. This may lead to increasingly common elevated fire weather conditions, especially across the Rio Grande plains.
