Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 110 mph Path Length /statute/: 5.58 miles Path Width /maximum/: 200 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 07/15/2024 Start Time: 08:02 PM CDT Start Location: 2 NW Kewanee Municipal Airport / Henry County / IL Start Lat/Lon: 41.228 / -89.991 End Date: 07/15/2024 End Time: 08:09 PM CDT End Location: 2 E Kewanee / Henry County / IL End Lat/Lon: 41.2395 / -89.8856 Survey Summary: The city of Kewanee experienced significant winds throughout a large portion of the city, with a concentrated area of convergent damage consistent with a high end EF1 tornado across the southern section of town. There were well over 100 trees in the city that suffered extensive damage, many of them downed. Numerous trees with trunks over four feet in diameter were snapped or uprooted, including some falling on homes. Many homesteads had minor roof damage and a couple experienced large sections of their roof removed. Also of note, this tornado tracked in a somewhat deviant east-northeast motion, in-line with a tight mesovortex that spawned it. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$
