Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
354 AM CDT Fri Jul 5 2024

Today:

Outside of a few light showers, much of the precipitation from
Thursday evening had ended overnight. Skies were partly to mostly
cloudy north and northeast early this morning, with areas of dense fog
northeast. Farther south skies were clear. Early morning temperatures
heading toward daybreak varied from the upper 50s northwest to near
70 degrees far southeast. Winds were light from the south or west.

Not a whole lot of change is anticipated this morning with partly to
mostly cloudy skies north with chances for showers and possibly a
stray thunderstorm. Temperatures should reach the middle 60s to lower
70s by late morning. The scattered clouds and chances for showers and
a few storms will spread farther south into central Iowa by afternoon
with highs across the state in the 70s.

Tonight and beyond:

Any chances for rain should end by early evening with partly cloudy
skies into early Saturday. However, chances for showers and
thunderstorms will return to the forecast later in the day across
Nebraska, Minnesota, and the northwest half of Iowa, and then
continue off and on across much of the Midwest through the remainder
of the weekend and into early next week. Generally, the potential for
severe weather and heavy rains will be low through at least the
weekend.
