...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM CDT THIS MORNING...

* WHAT...Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive
  rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...Portions of south central and southwest Illinois,
  including the following counties, in south central Illinois,
  Clinton and Washington. In southwest Illinois, southern Madison,
  Monroe and Saint Clair.

* WHEN...Until 800 AM CDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
  Water over roadways. Overflowing poor drainage areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 503 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
    thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream
    flooding. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen.
  - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected
    over the area. This additional rain will result in minor
    flooding.
  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...
    St. Louis, Belleville, Granite City, O`Fallon, East St.
    Louis, Collinsville, Edwardsville, Fairview Heights, Cahokia,
    Swansea, Glen Carbon, Shiloh, Highland, Troy, Waterloo,
    Columbia, Maryville, Mascoutah, Pontoon Beach and
    Centreville.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
