...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1936, Wichita reached its all time record high of 114

consecutive days on which the high had reached or
exceeded 100 degrees. In 1934, Wichita experienced its
13th consecutive day of 100-degree plus heat when the
high reached 105. This is tied for the 4th longest
streak in the city`s history. Chanute spent both summers
in a sauna. In August, 1934, Chanute suffered in
sweltering 100-degree plus heat on 21 dates. Among them
were the 1st and the 12th when they hit 109 degrees. In
August, 1936, Chanute ran a fever of 100 degrees and
higher on 23 dates. Most occurred during a 20-day
stretch from the 8th to the 27th during which the town
recorded highs that reached 110 degrees four times.

days.
