...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1970, Hurricane Celia slammed into the Texas Coast.
A category 3 hurricane, Celia struck South Texas between
Corpus Christi and Port Aransas with maximum sustained
winds around 125 mph and gusts that reached 180 mph.  The
hurricane killed 15 and caused an estimated $400 million
damage which, at the time, made her the costliest storm
of any type to hit the Texas Coast.
