130 FXUS64 KHGX 170802 AFDHGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 302 AM CDT Sat Aug 17 2024 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Sunday Night) Issued at 302 AM CDT Sat Aug 17 2024 Surprise...it`s going to be hot. Hot and humid conditions prevail through the weekend, courtesy of the mid-upper level ridge that has been building to the west and a surface high pressure to our east bringing in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. Persistent onshore winds in concert with daytime heating and the sea/bay breezes will bring a lucky few some relief as isolated showers and thunderstorms form and move inland. Once again, any activity is expected to taper off by or shortly after sunset. Highs will top out in the 90s to around 100F today and Sunday. The combination of heat and humidity will result in heat index values from 105 to 112F. Some areas could reach to 115F. The Heat Advisory continues through this evening, and will likely be extended through the weekend. Adams && .LONG TERM... (Monday through Friday) Issued at 302 AM CDT Sat Aug 17 2024 Mid-upper ridging to our north and west will continue to dominate area wx with heat advisories likely being required into the early-mid parts of next week. That said, there is a bit of hope that portions of the area will see the potential for some isolated- scattered precip in the Tue-Thur time period as a diffuse backdoor frontal boundary tries to advance into parts of the CWA from the east. Subsidence will still be a substantial limiting factor, but it appears the center of the ridge might reposition itself just a bit further west and allow for this possibility (along with high/low temps relenting 2-5F from what we`ve seen as of late). The ridge should then move back into the Southern Plains Friday into the weekend. Some guidance shows a portion of the East Coast trof breaking away from its parent trof further north and tracking under the ridge toward the Western Gulf coast. If so, some rain chances might continue across southern parts of the CWA. 47 && .AVIATION... (06Z TAF Issuance) Issued at 1131 PM CDT Fri Aug 16 2024 South/Southeast winds will becoming southwesterly overnight, then south/southeasterly again Saturday afternoon with the sea breeze. VFR conditions will dominate the TAF period. 03 && .MARINE... Issued at 302 AM CDT Sat Aug 17 2024 Light winds and low seas will prevail well into the middle of next week. A more predominant ese flow should set up late next week with a corresponding bump in wind speeds/seas. 47 && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
