Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
412 AM CDT Tue Jul 2 2024

.DISCUSSION...

A cold front will move through the area today, turning winds to out
of the west/northwest in its wake. Speeds and gusts will be on the
low side though with speeds of only 5-10 mph and gusts up to around
15 mph. Highs will only warm to the 70s this afternoon with dew
points remaining mainly in the 60s but slowly falling throughout the
day. Relative humidity will only fall to 50-70+% today due to the
cooler temperatures and higher dew points. The moist environment
along with green fuels will keep fire danger low today. Light
showers are also expected throughout the day, further reinforcing
low fire danger.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category
this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the
ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is
low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be
with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored.

OUTLOOK FOR WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the low category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.
