Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Angelo TX
327 AM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 303 AM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024

The upper level ridge is currently centered over southern Colorado
and northern New Mexico early this morning. This ridge will remain
in place, and possibly even slightly expand somewhat to the
southeast. This will keep rain chances out of the forecast for our
area today, and warm temperatures a 2-3 degrees across the area.
We could see a few morning low clouds mainly south of Interstate
20, but these should scatter out by mid to late morning.
Otherwise, expect a few upper level clouds, highs in the mid 90s
to around 100 degrees, and southerly winds 5 to 15 mph. Tonight,
south/southeast winds will diminish to 5 to 10 mph, with lows
mainly in the low to mid 70s.

.LONG TERM...
(Monday through Saturday)
Issued at 303 AM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024

Temperatures will continue to increase for the first half of the
work week as the 850 mb thermal ridge pushes further east into our
area. Highs on Monday and Tuesday could approach 104 in some
areas, with the warmest temperatures in the Concho Valley and Big
Country. Precipitation chances will remain low during this time
period, as the upper level ridge continues to sit to our west.

Moisture will be on the rise for the second half of the work week,
with PWAT values in the 1.5 to 2 inch range on Thursday. With this
increase in moisture, we`ll see increased cloud cover and the
potential for heavy rainfall with any storms that develop. A cold
front is forecast to push through the area on Thursday. Rain
chances will increase along and behind the front. Moisture will
remain high post frontal passage, leaving the potential for
showers and thunderstorms for Friday through the weekend. We`ll
also see slightly cooler temperatures starting Thursday, with
highs mainly in the low to mid 90s.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1230 AM CDT Sun Jul 14 2024

Currently, all sites are generally VFR, with only some upper level
clouds moving across the area. Low clouds can be seen in satellite
imagery developing to the south and southeast, and these are
expected to move north into the area affecting at least KSOA and
KJCT in the next few hours, and may also reach as far north as
KBBD, so have kept a mention of MVFR CIGs at these through sites
later this morning through sunrise. These clouds will scatter out
of the area by 14Z or 15Z, leaving FEW to SCT upper level clouds
through the rest of the day and evening hours. Winds will be out
of the south/southeast with a few gusts between 15 and 20 knots
from mid morning through the early evening hours.
