Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Angelo TX
1235 PM CDT Fri Aug 16 2024

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 226 AM CDT Fri Aug 16 2024

Hot and dry conditions will continue as the upper-level ridge
remains steadfast across West Central Texas and begins to
strengthen. Afternoon high temperatures today will range from the
upper 90s to 105 with the warmest temperatures across the Big
Country and parts of the Concho Valley. A Heat Advisory remains in
place for today through this evening for the Big Country, with
heat indices across parts of the area reaching 105 to 107 degrees.
Expect warm overnight low temperatures again tonight, ranging in
the mid 70s to lower 80s. Given the above normal temperatures and
drier conditions, there is some concern for fire weather. However,
with slightly lighter winds today and RH values remaining above
20 percent across much of the area, we leaned against issuing an
RFD for today.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday through Thursday)
Issued at 205 AM CDT Fri Aug 16 2024

Expect hot and dry conditions through much of the long term as a
strong upper level ridge centers over the Southern Plains. Expect
some heat related impacts and Heat Advisories will likely be
needed for mainly the Big Country, Concho Valley and Heartland as
highs will be 105 to 110. Highs across the remainder of the area
will be in the upper 90s to around 103. Please follow heat safety
rules if you have to be outside. Slightly cooler temperatures are
possible by late next week with highs staying below 105. Going
with a dry forecast through the long term.
