Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Angelo TX

...New LONG TERM...

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Saturday)
Issued at 144 PM CDT Fri Aug 16 2024

...Heat Advisory extended through tomorrow for the Big Country...

No significant changes to the forecast through tomorrow. Upper level
ridging centered over southern NM has strengthened slightly. The
ridge is expected to shift northward through tomorrow, but will
continue to remain in control of our weather locally. Highs tomorrow
are expected to warm a degree or two, so the Heat Advisory in place
for the Big Country will be extended through tomorrow afternoon.
Highs will once again reach to around 107 degrees in parts of the
Big Country. Areas south of Interstate 20 will continue to flirt
with Heat Advisory criteria, but it looks like we will have one
more day before we are there. No precipitation expected, and
overnight conditions will continue to be warm, with temperatures
only dropping into the mid 70s to around 80 degrees for lows.

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday through Friday)
Issued at 220 AM CDT Sat Aug 17 2024

Expect hot and dry conditions through much of the long term as a
strong upper level ridge centers over the Southern Plains. Expect
some heat related impacts and Heat Advisories/Possible Warnings will
likely be needed for much of the area as highs will be 105 to 110.
Please follow heat safety rules if you have to be outside. Slightly
cooler temperatures are possible by late next week with highs
staying below 105. The nights will be very warm and humid as
temperatures stay in the 90s through much of the evening, and lows
in the mid 70s to lower 80s. Going with a dry forecast through the
long term. The odds are increasing for flash drought conditions
developing through mid September due to excessive heat and below
normal rainfall as indicated by CPC outlooks.
