.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 100 AM CDT Thu Jul 10 2025

Now Through Wednesday...

A generally diurnal pattern of showers and storms continues through
the weekend and into the early part of next week.

Ridging aloft remains a persistent feature through much of the
period. The ridge over the Southeast continues to get shunted
further to the south today as an upper level trough briefly lifts
across the Northeast. The western Atlantic ridge aloft quickly
builds back into the region on Friday with the ridge prominently
overhead this weekend. A subtle upper low or weak inverted trough
skirts around the southern periphery of the ridge and drifts
across the Gulf with little fanfare this weekend. While ridging
aloft keeps its grip over the area through the early part of next
week, another inverted trough drifts westward toward the Florida
peninsula and begins to nudge the ridge to our west somewhat. The
latter inverted trough will likely open a firehose of moisture
somewhere in the Southeast by the middle of next week. While the
pattern does look to turn wetter for the local area by the middle
to latter part of next week, pinpointing specifics related to the
forecast that far out are difficult and we will continue to refine
the forecast as we get closer in time.

Hot and humid weather persists as we roll deeper into the summer
months. Expect highs to top out in the mid to low 90s each
afternoon area-wide. Heat indices will generally range from
101-107F this afternoon and on Friday with increasing chances of
potentially hitting 108-111F this weekend through the early part
of next week as the ridge builds directly overhead. Heat
Advisories are possible by late this weekend.

Beach Forecast - The rip current risk is LOW across coastal Alabama
this morning with a MODERATE risk across northwest Florida. The risk
briefly increases to MODERATE for all beaches late this afternoon
and evening. The risk will generally remain LOW throughout the
weekend and into early next week with a brief bump to MODERATE for
northwest Florida likely by Sunday afternoon. 07/mb
