065 FXUS64 KLZK 110548 AFDLZK Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Little Rock AR 1248 AM CDT Sun Aug 11 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Monday) Issued at 153 PM CDT Sat Aug 10 2024 NW flow aloft will bring cooler temperatures through the weekend. By this evening...a round of light rain showers will be possible across northwestern locations as rain begins to taper off as it moves into the state. An additional round will be possible Sunday afternoon and evening bringing a better chance of rain across northern and possibly central locations. Widespread heavy rain is not expected at this time. As mentioned above, high temperatures are expected to feel comfortable through the rest of this weekend with values in the upper 70s across the north to lower 90s across the south. Dewpoints are expected to be in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Overnight low temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 50s to upper 60s. && .LONG TERM... (Monday Night through next Saturday) Issued at 153 PM CDT Sat Aug 10 2024 The heat will return in the long term. A warm front will head through Arkansas from the Gulf Coast to begin the period, and then a ridge of high pressure will take over from there. Under the ridge, largely above average temperatures are in the forecast. This will especially be the case in central and southern sections of the state where the ridge is most dominant. This is also where heat headlines will likely be necessary at some point as triple digit afternoon heat indices become common. Farther north/east toward the periphery of the ridge, isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible at times, and it will not be quite so hot. Even so, rainfall will not exactly be appreciable, with amounts generally below average. Toward the end of the period, a shortwave will approach from the Plains. An associated cold front will try to push into the region from the northwest, and could bring some relief next weekend. && .AVIATION... Sctd showers/few storms are expected to incrs in coverage to our west thru the early mrng hrs. Looking at a lull in rainfall coverage later today. && .LZK WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$ SHORT TERM...73 LONG TERM....46 AVIATION...44
