040 FNUS56 KLOX 141603 FWFLOX Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA 903 AM PDT Sun Jul 14 2024 ...POTENTIAL FOR LARGE PLUME-DOMINATED FIRES ACROSS INTERIOR DUE TO VERY HIGH MIXING HEIGHTS THROUGH MONDAY... .DISCUSSION... High pressure is starting to weaken and shift slowly east. This is causing the upper level winds to shift from southeast to south which should keep any thunderstorm activity east of Santa Barbara County today and through at least mid week. However, computer models are still indicating at least a 20% chance of isolated storms across northern Ventura County as well as the eastern San Gabriels and Antelope Valley. Moisture remains high based so rainfall will be minimal and isolated dry lightning strikes are possible. Minimum humidities across the interior are ranging between 15 and 25 percent today. In addition, onshore wind gusts between 20 to 30 mph are expected each afternoon for the next few days, with gusty northwest winds each afternoon and evening across the Interstate 5 corridor. Local gusts to 35 mph will be possible. Conditions will be favorable for large vertical plume growth with any new or existing fires, especially in old fuel growth stands. Projected mixing heights between 10,000 and 20,000 feet will be common today and Monday and areas under a large plume dominated fire can expect to have gusty and erratic surface winds and the potential for extreme fire behavior should any ignition starts. With the high shifting east temperatures are expected trend lower through at least Tuesday. However, another warming trend is expected for the latter half of the week, with highs again approaching 110 across the far interior areas. In addition, gusty northerly winds are possible over the Santa Ynez Range and Santa Lucias Tuesday through Thursday nights.
