.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 209 AM CDT Sat Jul 20 2024

A surface high pressure lingers over the Midwest today into Monday.
Keeping us in a dry pattern for the weekend. Low end rain chances
(20% chance) return to central Illinois on Sunday. The greatest
chance for rain in the extended is currently Tuesday afternoon and
Wednesday afternoon with a 30-40% chance of showers across the
entire CWA when a low pressure system is expected to pass overhead.
That frontal system appears to stall out Tuesday, bringing
additional 20% POPs through next weekend. Most of the showery
activity will be pretty isolated with rainfall amounts being
minimal, some 0.25" amounts could occur in areas impacted by a
heavier shower.

Temperatures stay below normal through the next week. Normal
temperatures for this time of year for central and southeastern
Illinois are in the upper 80s. The forecast highs are in the upper
70s to low 80s. By next Saturday, it looks like we could be warming
back up to the upper 80s for highs. The lows will be slightly below
or near normal starting tomorrow and lasting through the extended.
Normal lows are in the upper 60s. The forecast lows are in the low
to mid 60s. Southeastern Illinois has the best chance of being near
normal overnight this week with lows mainly in the upper 60s in
their forecast.
