...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1936, the temperature reached 117 degrees in Hill City, Kansas,
setting the all-time record high for that location. It is also the
highest temperature ever recorded in the Tri State area.

In 1994, a severe thunderstorm created a 6 mile wide by 19 mile long
swath of damage when hail the size of baseballs fell across the area
from just north of Benkelman to the Kansas and Nebraska state line.
Property damage was estimated at $2.8 million with nearly $7 million
in crop damage.
Baseball size hail was also reported in Sherman County and Wichita
County.
