272 FXUS62 KFFC 111737 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 137 PM EDT Thu Jul 11 2024 ...New 18Z Aviation Discussion... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Friday) Issued at 342 AM EDT Thu Jul 11 2024 Key Messages: - Forecast remains dry for most of Thursday and Friday, with the exception of east central GA late Friday afternoon/evening. - Will get progressively warmer today and tomorrow, though dewpoints remain reasonable for this time of year. This should prevent the need for any heat product issuance. Forecast: A lovely start to the day with minimal cloud cover in most of north and central Georgia and temperatures in the mid to upper 60s in the north and low 70s in central Georgia. Not quite Fall levels of crisp, but we`ll take it in the middle of July. Beautiful day expected in our post frontal airmass. High temps will be in the low to mid 90s (save for the mountains), but humidity remains relatively low, keeping our "feels like" temperatures reasonable. No precip expected. Tonight, temps won`t be quite as cool, but will still be into the 60s and low 70s with mostly clear skies. Friday looks like more of the same as not much in the way of any synoptic system looks to come along and kickstart any kind of meaningful moisture return. Temperatures will be even warmer in many locations, reaching into the mid to upper 90s by the afternoon, but it remains relatively dry. Some moisture return may begin by later Friday evening as strong Bermuda high slides a bit to the southwest, promoting onshore flow off the Atlantic. This will bring back some later afternoon/early evening rain chances across east central Georgia. Lusk && .LONG TERM... (Friday night through Wednesday) Issued at 342 AM EDT Thu Jul 11 2024 The Southeast will remain wedged in between the stout upper ridge anchored across the Intermountain West and the Atlantic Ridge to our east to start the extended period. With deeper moisture remaining shunted to our south and east near and south of a lingering stationary boundary, a drier airmass will remain entrenched across the forecast area through the weekend. PoPs will thus remain primarily of the isolated variety through Sunday, though slightly higher coverage (low end chance) will creep begin to back into the southeast zones. High temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 90s each afternoon, though (relatively) lower afternoon dewpoints in the 60s should keep afternoon heat index values below Heat Advisory criteria of 105. The aforementioned ridging across the West will begin to encroach farther eastward by the early work week, keeping temperatures above average. PoPs look to remain of the isolated to widely scattered diurnal variety through Tuesday within the continued weakly forced environment. With dewpoints slowly creeping upward by Tuesday, more humid, uncomfortable conditions will make a gradual return. By the tail end of the long term on Wednesday, a cold front looks to make progress toward the forecast area. As such, above-climo PoPs should make a return in the presence deeper moisture return in advance of the front. RW && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 129 PM EDT Thu Jul 11 2024 VFR conditions are expected to persist through the period, with a widely scattered cu field around 050-060 in place this afternoon. Scattered SHRA/TSRA will be possible in far east Georgia on Friday afternoon, but is expected to remain to the east of all TAF sites. Winds will be primarily NNE at 4-8 kts this afternoon, but could see some brief movement to NNW. Winds will become light and variable overnight, coming up from NE during the daytime on Friday. //ATL Confidence...18Z Update... Medium confidence on wind directions. High confidence on all other elements. King && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
