248 FXUS62 KFFC 121748 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 148 PM EDT Fri Jul 12 2024 ...New 18Z Aviation Discussion... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Saturday) Issued at 348 AM EDT Fri Jul 12 2024 Warm, benign weather is expected through the short term period. Coastal low pressure area over the South Atlantic Bight, just in the periphery of the Bermuda ridge, will provide tropical moisture into the Carolinas and far eastern Georgia this afternoon and into Saturday. As a result, expect warming trend to continue into the weekend, with temperatures and dew points increasing by a few degrees each day. Heat Index values will be in the upper 90s to low 100s, and remain below Heat Advisory criteria through Saturday. Forecast grids continue to include slight to chance PoPs for east central Georgia for this afternoon and Saturday, but tight PoP gradient will restrict chances close to the South Carolina border. Into the weekend, sunny skies will be marked by building CU field and widespread CU/stratus spreading in from the east. Winds will be light and variable. 31 && .LONG TERM... (Saturday night through Thursday) Issued at 348 AM EDT Fri Jul 12 2024 -Hot -A break from the heat might be possible late next with a possible front. These next couple of AFDs are primarily going to be me trying to figure out how to say Hot in new and exciting ways. High pressure builds off the coast this weekend and we get stuck in weak zonal flow well into next week. Chances for any meaningful precip will likely not show up until a cold front pushes in Wednesday night and into Thursday of next week. The chance of afternoon thunderstorms over the weekend and into early next week will be limited to the far southern portions of the CWA and even there, it seems unlikely. Dewpoints will be in the 70s south of Columbus to Macon, but given mid level dynamics and no significant forcing at the surface there won`t be much to work with as far as lift goes. To drive the point home: Hot. Expect Heat Indices to be in the triple digits for most of the CWA with the exception of the mountains until the middle of next week. Overnight lows will be in the mid 70s which won`t provide much relief and will result in an early start to the heat. Vaughn && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 142 PM EDT Fri Jul 12 2024 VFR conditions are expected to persist through the period. A SCT- BKN cu field between 060-080 has developed and is expected to persist through the afternoon hours. Isolated SHRA/TSRA in portions of far east Georgia this afternoon should stay away from all TAF sites. Winds will be primarily light through the remainder of the day and tomorrow, at 6 kts or less. Winds are expected to shift to NW by 19-20Z this afternoon, becoming light and variable after sunset. On Saturday, winds will come up from NE in the early morning, shifting to NW by 17-18Z. //ATL Confidence...18Z Update... Medium confidence on wind directions. High confidence on all other elements.
