Slightly increased mid-level moisture and instability will result in greater coverage of high-based showers and thunderstorms Sunday afternoon. Lightning coverage is expected to remain isolated to scattered (15 to 25%), but thunderstorms that do develop should be mostly dry, with little if any rainfall. Given increased fuel receptiveness during the ongoing period of abnormally high temperatures, this will pose a heightened risk of lightning-induced wildfire ignitions. Therefore, a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for the high country, foothills, and Cheyenne Ridge, where the coverage of dry thunderstorms is expected to be greatest. Prevailing west winds will be light, but brief local outflows from thunderstorms could produce gusts to 25 mph at times. Minimum relative humidity values will hover between 12 and 22%, lowest across Park County, the lower foothills, and the Cheyenne Ridge. Atmospheric conditions will be conducive to large plume development should a fire become established. LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Monday night through Friday... Above normal temperatures continue Monday, although slightly cooler than the previous few days. Increased mid-level moisture brings increased chances for showers and storms in the afternoon. Chances for dry lightning are lower than Sunday with a bit more moisture around; however, not zero with drier lower levels. Moisture increases into Tuesday and Wednesday increasing chances and coverage of showers/storms and wetting rain.
