.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 222 AM MDT Wed Jul 10 2024

Massive heat ridge builds into Wyoming today, beginning a streak
of 5 straight days where temperatures will run 10 to 20 degrees
above normal. Today will see temperatures well into the 90s for
all lower elevations. This includes areas like Jackson Hole,
the Upper Green River Basin, and Sweetwater County, which don`t
often see prolonged heat episodes.

Models have not changed in the previous couple days, bringing H7
temperatures of 20 to 23 degrees C across the state Thursday
through Sunday. This still translates to low to mid 90s west of
the Divide, and upper 90s and low 100s east of the Divide.
Temperatures overnight will only be below 70 degrees in these
locations for only a few hours, so each day will have a head
start at temperatures jumping back into the 90s. With these
factors in place, Heat Advisories have been posted for the
Bighorn Basin, the Wind River Basin, and Johnson and Natrona
Counties. If you have any outdoor plans these days, or are
traveling, it is imperative that you prepare for the heat. Drink
plenty of water and take frequent cooling breaks. Check on
those that may not have adequate cooling available.

Longer term models note that the heat ridge shifts east somewhat
early next week, possibly getting flattened by a passing
shortwave. While this would moderate the heat somewhat, the
summer heat will still be in place, so be prepared for an
extended hot period.
