Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
234 PM SST Sat Jul 6 2024

.Short term...
Showers and thunderstorms within the trough (mentioned in recent
forecasts) seems to be focused more south and north of the
territory. For this reason, sunny weather and a gentle breeze were
observed throughout the day. However, latest model data shows an
uptick in showers early Sunday morning as showers to the south of
the trough moves towards the Island chain. A high pressure system
building to the southwest will hold American Samoa at its edge.
This are is typically where moisture from the trough and breezy
winds meet. Expect rainy and breezy weather for the new week.

.Long term...
By Monday, GDI trends depicts moisture and convection gradually
building over the territory. Expect numerous showers through
midweek, before peaking to widespread Thursday through Friday as
the trough becomes more developed. Winds may reach near-advisory
levels throughout the week, especially as thunderstorms embedded
within the trough could briefly elevate winds at times.

.Marine...
Latest observations from the Aunu`u PacIOOS buoy shows seas have
diminished to 6 to 8 feet. However, peak periods near 15 seconds
indicates swells impacting the area. A high surf advisory was
issued again this morning as high surfs were seen along the south
shore. However, surfs may be higher and reach warning levels by
Tuesday as strong winds and another set of south west swells moves
towards the Islands.
