613 FXZS60 NSTU 160131 AFDPPG Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pago Pago AS 231 PM SST Mon Jul 15 2024 .Short term... A trough, that gave light on and off showers overnight, continues to weaken over the American Samoa islands today. Scattered showers are forecast for the rest of the day and tonight, but heavy rainfall nor flooding is expected. A ridge is expected to push the trough to the north by Tuesday morning, which will bring drier air than average to the territory. As the weather pattern stalls through the week, only isolated showers (20% change) in the passing form and more sun than clouds are forecast during the days ahead. East/southeasterly winds have increased to around 15 mph this morning and will continue throughout the week, perhaps reaching up to 20 mph at times but well below the wind advisory criteria. .Long term... The ridge will remain over the region on Friday and the weekend. Therefore, the forecast remains generally favorable. If showers occur, it will be in the passing form. The easterly breeze remains. .Marine... As winds became a easterly moderate breeze this morning, wind driven seas caused seas to build to Small Craft Advisory. A ridge will push the weak trough, currently over the region, to the north overnight. This ridge will continue to give a east/southeasterly moderate breeze (ranging from 11 to 16 knots) throughout the week, but may reach up to a fresh breeze (ranging from 17 to 21 knots) at times. The wind driven waves will interact with the southerly swell to create choppy conditions throughout the week. && .PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... A High Surf Advisory remains in effect. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect. && $$ LaPlante
